Friends of the Mekele Blind School

We were introduced to the Mekele Blind School by an Ethiopian friend while we were there in June 2006, carrying out a cultural bridge-building project in a few public elementary schools. It was then and there that we saw for ourselves that the blind school in Mekele is struggling. The water situation for the school is primitive, the food given to the children is meager, and there is not enough money for the most basic of needs. Read more about the school.

Ethiopia was never colonized, and has no past colonial power “helping" the country to develop. There is little tourism and contact with concerned outsiders is limited. We decided to roll up our sleeves and pitch in to help these children and their school. The Regional Education Bureau in Mekele and the school faculty have welcomed our help with open arms. They inform us about the most urgent needs, and we do our best to meet them.

100% of your donation goes to improving the lives of these children. We assure you that your donation will go directly toward the improvement of these children’s lives by helping us to continue the work we’ve begun there. There is much to do, and with your help, we can continue to bring dignity to the lives of these beautiful, bright, and loving children. Thank you!
